living inside now
Shopkat survived our week long trip living in the garage with plenty of food and water, an outside door to the gardens, and friends and neighbors stopping by to play with her. When we got back I sensed that other animals, (cats?) were coming around, so that's when I brought her inside. Still hadn't really cat proofed the house so when not home her headquarters is in the basement. She is pretty smart and easily trainable. The past few days, she pretty much had run of the house, I trust her now. I still find things that need to be out of her reach, most of it is my fabric and other pillow making supplies. We're getting there! She is so cute! She really likes to hang out with me! Follows me everywhere! Rich was out of town on Friday night so I had some of the peeps who played with her while we were gone over and they played with her all night! The next day she slept a lot! Everyone loves her! She still goes outside every day. It will be interesting to see her in the snow!

My first scare!
Today when I was leaving for work, shopkat did not come out, so I went looking for him and couldn't find him. Now that is a first, as he ALWAYS comes around me, so I was worried all morning that he may have come across some evil creature in the woods.
Well, when I came home, he was there to greet me! Whew!

Momma cat leaves us a kitten
So, about a month ago a mother cat stayed by our back steps with her 4 kittens. It was so fun to watch them romp around in our gardens. Then two days later, she takes off, but leaves one kitten. The poor thing was trembling, scared, and the size of my hand.
What could I do, I had to feed it. So it lived under our deck for about a week. I made a little bed for it out of a plastic tub and a folded rug. It wouldn't let me near it until about the third day, I finally got to pet it. So, I started to put the food in the garage, instead of leaving it outside to attract other animals as we live in the country. One day, shopkat was in the garage and I was about to close it up for the night and shoo the cat out, I heard a coyote outside, so then I brought the bed into the garage and shopkat now sleeps there. I cleaned the garage pretty good, got a litter box, and so far, the little guy (not sure the sex yet) has a good life. It's amazing how quickly the kitten has perked up and is so friendly! It's very entertaining also, especially when I'm out in the garden and he/she romps around. Winter is coming and my husband and I have decided it will be OK to let shopkat inside. So, now I have to cat proof the house and basement. Also, there are new bills to pay now, I visited a vet and got the low down on shots neuter or spay etc. I did not want this responsibility, but have fallen in love. What can I say? Oh, the name Shopkat came because we thought we might keep it in my husbands pottery studio to keep the mice out.
